NWS Issues Advisories for the Marianas; Practice Caution While Traveling

The National Weather Service (NWS), Weather Forecast Office Guam, has issued the following advisories:

short term forecast has been issued for Guam and Guam coastal waters. Through 6:30 p.m., moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms will drift southward over much of Guam and adjacent coastal waters. Rainfall amounts up to an inch and a half are possible. Occasional cloud-to- ground lightning and northeast gusts up to 35 mph are also expected. If outdoors, seek shelter if lightning is seen or thunder is heard. If driving, be alert for visibilities suddenly dropping to near zero, and watch for water covering the road.

Mariners can expect gusty winds around 34 mph, locally higher waves, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these conditions pass. If lightning is occurring, stay below deck if possible and keep away from metal objects.
