COVID-19 test results are reported from multiple labs at varying times of the day. The cumulative total from all labs will be reported on a nightly basis. The following breakdown provides cumulative COVID-19 test results for Wednesday, April 29, 2020:

The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) tested 112 individuals for COVID-19 on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 with conclusive results. Zero tested positive through DPHSS and 112 tested negative for SARS-CoV-2. The results include samples from the COVID-19 expanded testing in Astumbo, Dededo.

The DPHSS overall count also includes probable cases of COVID-19 and confirmed positive cases tested by the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC) in San Diego, the U.S. Naval Hospital (USNH) Guam, the Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA), the Guam National Guard (GUNG), and Diagnostic Laboratory Services (DLS).

To date, 145 cases have been confirmed through COVID-19 testing provided, with 5 deaths and 130 released from isolation. When a patient is released from isolation, he or she is no longer considered infectious. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) research and published guidelines, a patient is released from isolation after at least 72 hours have passed without a fever or additional respiratory issues and at least seven days have passed since symptoms first appeared. All remaining cases are in isolation.

Navy Starts Returning Sailors to USS Theodore Roosevelt

The U.S. Navy began the process to return groups of Sailors from off-base hotels to the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt onboard Naval Base Guam, April 29. These Sailors were previously in a restriction of movement in Guam hotels as a result of COVID-19 infections on the ship, and they have since been cleared to depart quarantine and return to the ship.

Approximately 700 Sailors remained aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt to maintain the ship’s essential functions, and to conduct deep cleaning and sanitization of the ship’s spaces over the past few weeks. Now, the ship is fully prepared to receive healthy Sailors who have spent up to 27 days in quarantine ashore.

These Sailors have had three negative COVID-19 test results, including one to determine eligibility to depart Naval Base Guam for hotel quarantine, and two additional tests to ensure they are COVID-free and healthy.

In order to maintain social distancing between the returning Sailors, transportation to the ship includes travel via large buses. These vehicles will be thoroughly cleaned in accordance with recommended U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) standards before, between and after each use. All personnel involved in the transportation process will wear personal protective equipment, including all bus drivers and passengers.

Governor Tours Expeditionary Medical Facility

Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio toured the Department of Defense's Expeditionary Medical Facility (EMF) under construction in South Finegayan, Dededo along with DoD leadership, April 29. Joint Region Marianas Commander Rear Adm. John Menoni hosted the tour, which included guests Maj. Gen. Esther Aguigui, adjutant general of the Guam National Guard, and Brig. Gen. Tracy Smith, commanding general, 18th Medical Command (Deployment Support).

Navy 'Seabees' continue construction on the 150-bed capacity field hospital which will provide expanded medical capabilities in support of DoD’s COVID-19 response. The EMF project is expected to be complete in the coming weeks.

DoD is postured to provide medical support and supplies to civil authorities, including the Government of Guam, if and when authorized by the lead federal agency (FEMA) through U.S. Indo-Pacific Command tasking, as part of a Defense Support to Civil Authorities mission.

Wildfire

Regularly clean the roof and gutters.
Maintain an area approximately 30’ away from you home that is free of anything that will burn, such as wood piles, dried leaves, newspapers and other brush.
Connect garden hoses long enough to reach any area of the home and fill garbage cans, tubs, or other large containers with water.
Review your homeowner's insurance policy and also prepare/update a list of your home's contents.

Fire Weather

Turn on your TV/radio. You’ll get the latest weather updates and emergency instructions.
Know where to go. If you are ordered to evacuate, know the route to take and have plan of where you will go. Check-in with your friends and family.
Keep your car fueled, in good condition, and stocked with emergency supplies and a change of clothes.

Drought

Conserve water

Take shorter showers.

Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving.
Run the washer less frequently and only when you have a full load.
Water your lawn less frequently and do so when the temperature is cooler in the early morning or late evening.
When you run the tap to heat or cool water, keep a pitcher to store the water and use it to water plants.
Avoid washing your car.

Practice fire prevention

Don't set off fireworks when conditions are dry.
Deposit cigarette butts in the proper receptacle to avoid starting a
Pour water over camp fires and backyard fire pits to ensure they are completely out before leaving them unattended.

Follow directions from local officials. If there are restrictions on water usage, be sure to heed them.
