JIC RELEASE NO. 99 - Grab-N-Go Meals Suspended at FBLGMS After Worker Tests Positive for COVID-19; Profiles of Earlier Confirmed Cases - GHS OCD

Grab-N-Go School Meals at F.B. Leon Guerrero Middle School (FBLGMS) will be suspended until further notice beginning Thursday, April 30, 2020, after one school meals worker tested positive for COVID-19.

On Wednesday, April 29, 2020, the Guam Department of Education learned that a Grab-N-Go School Meals Program worker at FBLGMS tested positive for COVID-19. The worker had been tested as part of contact tracing on Tuesday, April 28, 2020, and was informed of the results on Wednesday. Prior to being tested, the individual had been working at the FBLGMS distribution site.

Immediately after learning of the worker’s health status, Superintendent Jon Fernandez suspended operations at the FBLGMS site to allow for deep cleaning of the campus over the next several days. All FBLGMS Grab-N-Go School Meals workers and volunteers will also be tested for COVID-19 by the Department of Public Health and Social Services as early as today.

“We are temporarily suspending operations out of an abundance of caution as we take the time to ensure the health and safety of our team, as well as our community,” GDOE Superintendent Jon Fernandez said. “We are keeping this individual in our thoughts and prayers, and thank Public Health for the assistance in testing our team as quickly as possible.”

Daily precautions are taken at the Grab-N-Go School Meals Program distribution sites to safeguard health and safety of employees and participants. Not only are the schools cleaned and sanitized daily, but all workers and volunteers are required to wear a mask while on campus. Additionally, those handling food items are also required to use both masks and gloves. Further, the cafeterias are closed and follow all safety and sanitary procedures and practices. Unauthorized personnel are not allowed in the cafeteria food preparation area.

Grab-N-Go School Meals Program distribution will continue at the remaining 11 sites this week and the GDOE will continue to ensure that safety measures are followed at all sites. Participants are reminded to wear a mask when picking up meals and to stay in their vehicles and follow directions. Anyone feeling ill or with COVID-19 symptoms should not pick up meals from a Grab-N-Go distribution site. School meals are distributed at the following locations:

COVID-19 test results are reported from multiple labs at varying times of the day. Cumulative test results will be provided this evening once all tests from today are finalized.

DPHSS COVID-19 Expanded Test Continues for All Residents Islandwide in Astumbo
DPHSS, in collaboration with the Government of Guam and federal and private partners, is expanding the COVID-19 testing drive-through/walk-in. The expanded testing by DPHSS is free. Residents are asked to bring their ID.

Today, Wednesday, April 29, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Astumbo Gym in Dededo.
- Testing is open to any resident islandwide.
Thursday, April 30, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Mangilao Senior Center/Mangilao Night Market, next to Santa Teresita Catholic Church in Mangilao.
- Testing is open to central residents of Agana Heights, Asan, Maina, Barrigada, Chalan Pago, Ordot, Hagatna, Mangilao, Mongmong-Toto-Maite, Sinajana, Tamuning, and Tumon.
Friday, May 1, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Agat Senior Center/DYA Haya Youth Center, near Mount Carmel Church.
- Testing is open to southern residents of Agat, Inarajan, Merizo, Piti, Santa Rita, Talofofo, Umatac, and Yona.

Residents must meet the following criteria:

Individuals with COVID-19 symptoms
Multi-generational families in a household (parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, adult children, their children) with COVID-19 symptoms

Wildfire

Regularly clean the roof and gutters.

Connect garden hoses long enough to reach any area of the home and fill garbage cans, tubs, or other large containers with water.

Conserve water

Take shorter showers.

Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving.
Run the washer less frequently and only when you have a full load.
Water your lawn less frequently and do so when the temperature is cooler in the early morning or late evening.
When you run the tap to heat or cool water, keep a pitcher to store the water and use it to water plants.
Avoid washing your car.

Practice fire prevention

Don't set off fireworks when conditions are dry.
