NPM is held annually in the month of September. This NPM focused on planning, with the overarching theme “Prepared, Not Scared.” During the month, the community is encouraged to conduct preparedness actions, develop emergency plans, learn how to stay safe, and how to communicate during an emergency.
To end the month, GHS/OCD, along with local and federal emergency management partners, is hosting the free event at the Agana Shopping Center as a chance to showcase Guam’s emergency management capabilities. Partners from the government of Guam, military, federal, private and non-profit organizations will have activities, static displays, indoor and outdoor demonstrations, and giveaways.
Winners from the NPM elementary, middle, and high school contests will also be announced and awarded emergency preparedness kits and other prizes in support of their efforts.
“We invite the whole community to come out and celebrate the National Preparedness Month grand finale,” said Charles Esteves, Office of Civil Defense Administrator. “The event provides you an opportunity to speak with the emergency managers in your community and learn how we all play a part in preparing our island against and increasing resiliency from natural and human-caused threats each year.”
