JIC Release No. 1 - Guam to Move to COR 3 by 8 a.m.

JIC Release No. 1 - Guam to Move to COR 3 by 8 a.m.

Acting Governor Joshua F. Tenorio and Brig. Gen. Gentry Boswell, deputy commander, Joint Region Marianas, anticipate placing Guam and the respective military bases in Condition of Readiness (COR) 3 at 8 a.m. this morning.

At COR 3, damaging winds of 39-57 mph are expected within 48 hours. Tropical Storm Wutip is expected to intensify into a typhoon today.
As of 4 a.m., Wutip was located near latitude 4.8 degrees north and longitude 149.4 degrees east, about 250 miles southwest of Chuuk and 675 miles south-southeast of Guam; moving west at 13 mph with maximum sustained winds now at 65 mph. It is expected to strengthen, becoming a typhoon later today.

On its current track, the system is expected to pass south of Guam by Saturday. Guam can expect to see the weather begin to deteriorate by early Saturday morning resulting in heavy showers remaining over the islands through the beginning of next week. The closest point of approach is anticipated around late Saturday night and early Sunday morning but inclement weather is expected before and after its closest point of approach.
Any northward deviation of the current forecast track would bring stronger winds to Guam, particularly in the southern villages.

Out of an abundance of caution, Acting Governor Tenorio and Brig. Gen. Boswell urge the community to heed the advisories from the National Weather Service and stay up to date with reputable sources.
