GHS/OCD Public Advisory: Wind & Small Craft Advisory (June 19, 2026)

GHS/OCD PUBLIC ADVISORY
Wind Advisory & Small Craft Advisory
Issued: June 19, 2026 - 0800 ChST

Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) advises the public that the National Weather Service (NWS) in Tiyan has issued a Wind Advisory for Guam and a Small Craft Advisory for Guam coastal waters, both in effect until 5:00 p.m. ChST today, Friday, June 19, 2026.

The advisories follow a tropical disturbance south of Guam that has produced higher winds and seas across the area. Conditions are expected to ease this afternoon.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Southeast winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph across Guam.
  • Gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
  • In coastal waters, southeast winds of 15 to 25 knots with occasional gusts to 35 knots and seas of 7 to 9 feet will create hazardous conditions for small craft.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO NOW

  • Secure loose objects outdoors, including canopies and other light items.
  • Use extra caution when driving, especially in high-profile vehicles.
  • Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid sailing in these conditions.
  • Stay informed by monitoring updates from the National Weather Service and GHS/OCD.

Conditions are expected to improve this afternoon. GHS/OCD will continue to monitor conditions in coordination with the National Weather Service and provide updates as conditions warrant.
