10:10 a.m. Tsunami Advisory Issued for Guam and CNMI from Philippines Earthquake

Tsunami Advisory Issued for Guam and CNMI from Philippines Earthquake 

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.2, that was later downgraded to M 7.8, that occurred 24 km WSW of Burias, Philippines with a depth of 25.0 km, at 9:37 a.m. (ChST).

As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, a tsunami advisory is in effect for Guam and the CNMI. Based on available data, there is a potential threat to Guam and the CNMI. Sea level fluctuations and strong ocean currents that could be a hazard along beaches, in harbors, and in coastal waters. 

The earliest estimated time that hazardous sea level fluctuations and strong currents may begin is 12:45 p.m. (ChST). 

Stay out of the waters, away from the beaches and coastal areas, and listen for further information. At this time, this does not call for a full scale exaction. Stay alert for further information.
