8:45 a.m. Flood Advisory in Effect for Guam; Crews Continue to Work on East Agana Landslide

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory, in effect for southern and central Guam until 10:30 a.m. this morning. Between 2.4 and 4.6 inches of rain have fallen.

flood watch remains in effect for Guam and Rota through late tonight. Flooding caused by excessive remains possible. Rainfall of 3 to 5 inches is possible over Guam and Rota through early Thursday morning.

The community is advised to take the following precautionary actions:.

  • If driving, be alert for low visibilities in heavy rain;
  • Slow down where water is ponding on the road;
  • Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Avoid walking or driving through flood waters. Just 6 inches of moving water can knock you down, and 2 feet of water can sweep your vehicle away;
  • Do not camp, park, or hike along streams and rivers. These areas can flood quickly and with little warning.

Landslide in East Agana

As the Guam Department of Public Works crews continue to work on safely clearing the landslide in East Agana, the following update is provided for the area:

  • One (1) northbound lane open
  • Two (2) southbound lanes open

The Guam Police Department continue to assist with directing traffic in the area for the safety of the DPW crew and the community. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes if possible. If travel through the area is necessary, heed the advice of officials.

The Office of Homeland Security and the Office of Civil Defense (OHS-OCD) remind the community to practice caution while traveling in heavy rain, driving below the speed limit and allowing enough braking distance between vehicles.
