Press Release - High Risk of Rip Current in Effect

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a Rip Current Statement, in effect for East facing reefs of Guam until 6:00 p.m. this evening.

Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

The offices of Guam Homeland Security/Civil Defense remind residents:

  • Swim near a lifeguard
  • If caught in a rip current, relax and float.
  • Don`t swim against the current.
  • If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline.
  • If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
