High Risk of Rip Current extended to Saturday; Small Craft Advisory in Effect

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a Rip Current Statement, in effect for East facing reefs of Guam through Saturday Afternoon (11/30/24).

Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

The offices of Guam Homeland Security/Civil Defense remind residents:

  • Swim near a lifeguard
  • If caught in a rip current, relax and float.
  • Don`t swim against the current.
  • If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline.
  • If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

For the Small Craft Advisory, it is in effect until 600pm Thursday (11/28/24) for Guam coastal waters. East winds around 20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt and seas 7 to 10 feet making conditions hazardous for small craft.

The offices of Guam Homeland Security/Civil Defense remind residents:

  • Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions.
