Locally heavy rainfall, and rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are still likely. Scattered rain showers may linger through Saturday into Sunday with additional rainfall amounts. Also, strong wind gusts to 30 mph or more can be expected near heavier showers.
Heavy rainfall could produce flooding of roadways and low-lying areas. Residents and visitors are advised to take the following precautionary actions:
- Those living in flood-prone areas should take action now; clear drainage areas and unblock storm drains to minimize flooding;
- Stay up to date with the latest information;
- If driving in heavy rain, be alert for low visibilities and slippery roads;
- Slow down where water is ponding on the road;
- Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Avoid walking or driving through flood waters. Just 6 inches of moving water can knock you down, and 2 feet of water can sweep your vehicle away;
- Do not camp, park, or hike along streams and rivers. These areas can flood quickly and with little warning.
- When thunder roars, get indoors. Tents, canopies and tarps are not safe shelter during thunderstorms.
A marine weather statement has been issued. Showers with gusty winds are approaching the waters of the Marianas. Showers capable of producing 30 knots are arriving from the east, moving northwest at 30 knots. Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots and locally higher waves. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these showers pass.
