Strong Wind No Longer Expected

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor what was formerly known as Invest 93W, since upgraded to Tropical Storm Haikui, which was originally forecast to have some effect on the Marianas along with the monsoon flow.

Fortunately, Tropical Storm Haikui has continued to strengthen but moved off to the northwest faster than models indicated. Although there is potential for increasing rainfall Tuesday into Wednesday, there is no longer a wind advisory in effect for the Marianas.

All other advisories for hazardous surf and seas have been cancelled as of this morning, though surf along west facing reefs is still elevated, with a moderate risk of rip currents so swimmers should still take precautions in the water.

Looking ahead towards the end of the week, a new disturbance, known as Invest 94W, is located near Kosrae and will be monitored in the coming days as it heads northwest.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind the community to practice caution while traveling rain, driving below the speed limit and allowing enough braking distance between vehicles.
