The National Weather Service (NWS) - Weather Forecast Office Guam has a high surf advisory, in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 6 a.m. Monday along north and west facing reefs. Large northwest swell will produce hazardous surf hazardous surf of 7 to 9 feet along north and west facing reefs today and tonight.
The community is advised to avoid venturing near reef lines and beaches, especially those facing north and west. Large breaking waves can knock you down and cause serious injuries. Strong rip currents will be life threatening.
If caught in a rip current, swim parallel to shore and back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to swim directly against a rip current.
Avoid north and west facing reefs
Many people may be celebrating the Labor Day at the beach. The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind the community that north and west facing reef lines and beaches may be dangerous. If near the ocean, keep a close eye on friends and family members and heed the advice of the NWS.
