Two COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported

Today, the Joint Information Center was notified of two (2) COVID-19-related fatalities:

The 340th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) on March 10, 2022. The patient was a 69-year-old male, vaccinated with a booster, who had underlying health conditions and tested positive on February 28.
The 341st COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Memorial Hospital (GMH) on March 16, 2022. The patient was an 81-year-old male, fully vaccinated without a booster, who had underlying health conditions and tested positive on March 8.

“Jeff, Josh, and I are deeply sorry for the family and friends on the passing of their loved ones, and we pray you find healing and peace,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “As we begin a slow and gradual lifting of restrictions, we must remain vigilant, especially among vulnerable family members.”

COVID-19 Test Results: 57 New Cases

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 57 new cases of COVID-19 from 686 specimens analyzed on March 16, 2022. Eight of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 46,650 officially reported cases, 341 deaths, 1,105 cases in active isolation, and 45,204 not in active isolation.

SPECIAL NOTE: Based on today's data, if we were to compare two (2) hypothetical populations of 100,000 people each, vaccinated versus unvaccinated, there would be 9 vaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19 compared to 117 unvaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19. The risk of being hospitalized for COVID-19 is about 13 times higher for the unvaccinated as compared to the vaccinated. *Estimated population is based on DPHSS Immunization Program analysis of 2020 Census data. Updates are expected pending further Census 2020 data breakdown.

Mangilao mAb Treatment Center

Monoclonal antibody therapy (mAb) treatment is available at the mAb Treatment Center at the Mangilao Senior Citizens Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m Monday through Saturday. Patients must receive a referral from a physician to qualify for treatment at this center. To schedule an appointment, call (671) 998-4627, within 10 days of when symptoms started for best results.

Guam COVID-19 Vaccination Update

As of March 16, 2022, a total of 135,601 of Guam’s eligible population (residents 5 years and older) is fully vaccinated. This total includes 13,524 residents 12 – 17 years old. 7,659 residents 5 – 11 years old received their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech two dose series. 5,865 residents 5 – 11 years old have completed their two-dose series. An additional 30 residents received their booster shots and a total of 56,255 booster shots have been administered to eligible residents since September 29, 2021.

Wildfire

Regularly clean the roof and gutters.
Maintain an area approximately 30’ away from you home that is free of anything that will burn, such as wood piles, dried leaves, newspapers and other brush.
Connect garden hoses long enough to reach any area of the home and fill garbage cans, tubs, or other large containers with water.
Review your homeowner's insurance policy and also prepare/update a list of your home's contents.

Turn on your TV/radio. You’ll get the latest weather updates and emergency instructions.
Know where to go. If you are ordered to evacuate, know the route to take and have plan of where you will go. Check-in with your friends and family.
Keep your car fueled, in good condition, and stocked with emergency supplies and a change of clothes.

Drought

Conserve water

Take shorter showers.

Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving.
Run the washer less frequently and only when you have a full load.
Water your lawn less frequently and do so when the temperature is cooler in the early morning or late evening.
When you run the tap to heat or cool water, keep a pitcher to store the water and use it to water plants.
Avoid washing your car.

Practice fire prevention

Don't set off fireworks when conditions are dry.
Deposit cigarette butts in the proper receptacle to avoid starting a
