138th COVID-19-Related Fatality Reported
The Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 138th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) at approximately 11:17 a.m. today. The patient was a 54-year-old male with underlying health conditions. He was admitted to GRMC on April 29 and tested positive upon admission.

"Our island mourns another loss to this deadly virus. To those who knew him, Jeff, Josh, and I offer our deepest condolences and sympathies. May you find comfort in the outpouring of love and support from those around you," said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. "Though we grieve, we must not grieve as others with no hope. We have the tools to prevent any more loss of life and call upon the community to do what is necessary to prevent any more days of sadness."

Results: Twelve New Cases of COVID-19
Twelve (12) new cases of COVID-19 were identified out of 508 tests performed Tuesday, May 4. Four (4) cases were identified through contact tracing. To date, there have been a total of 8,016 officially reported cases of COVID-19 with 138 deaths, 99 cases in active isolation, and 7,779 not in active isolation. The CAR Score is 1.1.

The community is reminded to remain vigilant:

Remain home if you are sick. Keep away from others who are sick and limit face-to-face contact with others.
Keep a safe distance of 6 feet or more between yourself and others who are outside of your household.
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
If visiting elderly family members, continue to practice social distancing to protect those you love.

Free COVID-19 Testing Schedule
COVID-19 community testing continues on Friday, May 7 and throughout the month of May. No symptoms are needed to qualify for testing. Bring a photo ID. Testing for travel purposes will not be conducted at these community testing sites. Individuals seeking COVID-19 testing to travel off-island may contact the DPHSS Northern Region Community Health Center at 635-7525/6 to schedule an appointment. For the safety of the community and nurses, only four (4) people per vehicle are allowed to be tested. Testing times, dates and locations are below:

Minors must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian and provide government-issued identification to validate age. The parent/legal guardian will also be required to sign a consent form on behalf of the minor to be tested for COVID-19.

COVID-19 symptoms include, but are not limited to:

Cough
Shortness of breath
Fever
Chills
Muscle pain
Sore throat
New loss of taste or smell

This list is not exhaustive of all possible symptoms. Other less common symptoms have been reported, including gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

DPHSS Child Care Development Fund Awarded $18.3M
The DPHSS Child Care Development Fund (CCDF) was awarded $18,344,631 through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Act (CRRSA) of 2021 to address the needs of child care providers and families impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The administration of this program is subject to statutory requirements of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021, and the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG) Act and related regulations. These funds can be used for allowable obligations incurred prior to the enactment of CRRSA to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus. X Flooding is a temporary overflowing of water onto land that is normally dry. Flooding may happen with only a few inches of water, or it may cover a house to the rooftop. There are many possible causes of floods including heavy rain, coastal storms and storm surge, waterway overflow from being blocked with debris, or overflow of levees, dams, or waste water systems. Flooding can occur slowly over many days or happen very quickly with little or no warning, called flash floods.

Wildfire

Regularly clean the roof and gutters.
Maintain an area approximately 30’ away from you home that is free of anything that will burn, such as wood piles, dried leaves, newspapers and other brush.
Connect garden hoses long enough to reach any area of the home and fill garbage cans, tubs, or other large containers with water.
Review your homeowner's insurance policy and also prepare/update a list of your home's contents.

Fire Weather

Turn on your TV/radio. You’ll get the latest weather updates and emergency instructions.
Know where to go. If you are ordered to evacuate, know the route to take and have plan of where you will go. Check-in with your friends and family.
Keep your car fueled, in good condition, and stocked with emergency supplies and a change of clothes.

Drought

Conserve water

Take shorter showers.

Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving.
Run the washer less frequently and only when you have a full load.
Water your lawn less frequently and do so when the temperature is cooler in the early morning or late evening.
When you run the tap to heat or cool water, keep a pitcher to store the water and use it to water plants.
Avoid washing your car.

Practice fire prevention

Don't set off fireworks when conditions are dry.
Deposit cigarette butts in the proper receptacle to avoid starting a
Pour water over camp fires and backyard fire pits to ensure they are completely out before leaving them unattended.

Follow directions from local officials. If there are restrictions on water usage, be sure to heed them.
