JIC RELEASE NO. 644 - COVID-19 Clusters Identified, Community Advised to Remain Vigilant; Free COVID-19 Testing Available; Twelve of 511 Test Positive for COVID-19; COVID-19 Vaccination Schedule

COVID-19 Clusters Identified, Community Advised to Remain Vigilant
During a joint press conference today, Governor Lou Leon Guerrero, Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio, and the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) announced the identification of two COVID-19 positive clusters identified through contact tracing:

  • CLUSTER A –  basketball gathering at a Dededo residence on April 3

    • 12 individuals in attendance

    • 8 confirmed positive cases

    • 4 close contacts identified and all tested negative 

    • Connection to Cluster A – Easter gathering at a Yigo residence on April 4

      • 25 reported in attendance

      • 3 positive cases from Cluster A were reported in attendance

      • 14 close contacts were identified and all tested negative

      • Case investigation is ongoing for 7 close contacts

    • Connection to Cluster A – A-Class Lounge

      • One positive case from Cluster A visited A-Class Lounge on April 3

      • To date, there are a total of 14 positives linked to A-Class Lounge from April 7 and April 10

      • 15 community contacts were identified and all tested negative

  • CLUSTER B – birthday party at a private residence on April 19

    • 3 individuals attended a birthday party at a private residence on April 19 and tested positive for COVID-19

    • Connection to Cluster B - All 3 COVID-19 positive cases from Cluster B are employees of Tsubaki Tower

      • To date, there are a total of 5 COVID-19 positive cases who are employees from Tsubaki Tower, 3 of which are linked to Cluster B

      • To date, at least 18 close contacts were identified

      • Case investigation and contact tracing is ongoing for 84 Tsubaki Tower employees identified as “potential” contacts

      • 961 Tsubaki Tower patrons were identified between April 14 – April 18 that are encouraged to get tested for COVID-19

 

The community is reminded to remain vigilant.

  • Remain home if you are sick. Keep away from others who are sick and limit face-to-face contact with others. 

  • Keep a safe distance of 6 ft. or more between yourself and others who are outside of your household.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

  • If visiting elderly family members, continue to practice social distancing to protect those you love.

 

Free COVID-19 Testing Available
The DPHSS Northern Region Community Health Center will offer free COVID-19 testing to staff and patrons of A-Class Lounge and The Tsubaki Tower on Friday, April 23, and Saturday, April 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Staff and patrons who were at the A-Class Lounge on or after April 7 and staff and guests who were at The Tsubaki Tower between April 14 – 18 should monitor for symptoms and get tested. 

 

COVID-19 symptoms include, but are not limited to:

  • Cough

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • Fever

  • Chills

  • Muscle pain

  • Sore throat

  • New loss of taste or smell

This list is not exhaustive of all possible symptoms. Other less common symptoms have been reported, including gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends individuals get tested between five to seven days after exposure to a positive COVID-19 case. DPHSS encourages staff, guests, and patrons to follow these recommended guidelines. If you develop any of the symptoms described above, contact your medical provider, or call 311 option 1 for more information. If your symptoms are severe, seek medical attention immediately or call 911.

Results: Twelve New Cases of COVID-19

Twelve (12) new cases of COVID-19 were identified out of 511 tests performed on Wednesday, April 21. Seven (7) cases were identified through contact tracing. One (1) case reported recent travel history and was identified in quarantine. To date, there have been a total of 7,909 officially reported cases of COVID-19 with 136 deaths, 65 cases in active isolation, and 7,708 not in active isolation. The CAR Score is 1.0.
