49th COVID-19-Related Fatality Reported
The Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 49th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Memorial Hospital (GMH) at approximately 4:16 p.m. The patient was a 70-year-old male with underlying health conditions that were compounded by COVID-19. He was admitted to GMH on August 30 and was a known COVID case.
“With each passing, we are reminded just how fragile life can be. We should never take each day for granted. Let’s take this time to reach out to family and loved ones to check up on them and see how they are doing. COVID-19 can be isolating, but we must remember that we are not alone,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “To his family and friends, Jeff, Lt. Governor Josh, and I offer our deepest condolences. In this difficult time, I hope you find comfort from the outpouring of support from the community.”
The Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center (GBHWC) has a Crisis Hotline that is available 24/7 at (671) 647-8833/4. For those feeling anxious, stressed, overwhelmed or are needing to talk to someone, GBHWC has experienced providers available and ready to assist the community with any heightened stress and anxiety experienced as a result of COVID-19.
Cumulative Results
To date, there have been a total of 2,488 officially reported cases of COVID-19 with 49 deaths, 617 cases in active isolation, and 1,822 not in active isolation. Of those cases, 2,215 are classified as civilians and 273 are military service members.
Forty-five (45) cases of COVID-19 were reported today to the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS). Forty-three (43) of those are confirmed cases, and two are probable cases. Of the 45 cases, 24 cases were identified through contact tracing.
