System Forecasted to Impact Marianas as a Typhoon

The National Weather Service (NWS) - Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor what is now Tropical Depression Yutu. As of 7 a.m., Yutu was located near 8.7 degrees north latitude, 156.4 degrees east longitude, about 855 miles east-southeast of Guam and 845 miles east-southeast of Saipan, moving west-northwest with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph. Yutu is expected to continue developing, becoming a tropical storm later today.

 

NWS Issues Flood Advisory for Guam; Drive with Caution

The National Weather Service (NWS) - Guam Weather Forecast Office issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for Guam, in effect until 4:30 p.m. A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated or ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

NWS Issues Special Weather Statement for the Marianas; Tropical Disturbance Could Impact the Marianas by Midweek

The National Weather Service (NWS) - Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor a developing tropical disturbance in eastern Micronesia, currently located just northwest of Kosrae near 8 degrees north latitude and 160 degrees east longitude; about 1100 miles east-southeast of Guam and 1080 miles east-southeast of Saipan.

MRFC Continues to Monitor Reported Phone Scams

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) along with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), continue to monitor reports of local telephone numbers receiving calls from unusual or unexpected numbers where the phone rings only once thus prompting a call back.

Counterterrorism Training Conducted Today

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) and the Mariana Regional Fusion Center, in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security and the United States Secret Service (USSS), hosted training on Counterterrorism conducted by the USSS’ Critical Protective Analysis Group (CPAG) and the Hazardous Device Countermeasures Branch, on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Sheraton Laguna Guam Resort.

GHS/OCD to Host 2018 Statewide Communications Interoperability Plan Workshop

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in coordination with the Statewide Interoperability Coordinator, and the Department of Homeland (DHS) Office of Emergency Communications (OEC), is hosting the 2018 Statewide Communications Interoperability Plan (SCIP) Workshop on October 23 - 24, 2018 at the GHS/OCD facility in Agana Heights from 8:30 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.
