NWS Issues Small Craft Advisory for the Marianas

The National Weather Service (NWS) - Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a small craft advisory for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan coastal waters, in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday. East winds of 15 to 25 knots and seas as high as 8 feet will produce hazardous conditions for operators of small craft.

NWS Closely Monitors Developing Circulation Near Kosrae

The National Weather Service (NWS), Guam Weather Forecast Office is closely monitoring a developing circulation about 115 miles north of Kosrae, near 7 degrees north latitude and 163 degrees east longitude.

The disturbance is the subject of a tropical cyclone formation alert by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, meaning the disturbance could become a tropical cyclone in the next 12 to 24 hours.

NWS Advisories in Effect; Strong Rip Currents will be Life-Threatening

The National Weather Service (NWS), Guam Weather Forecast Office has the following advisories in effect for the Marianas: 

A high surf advisory and high risk of rip currents is in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through Friday night. Along east facing reefs, surf will be hazardous at 8 to 11 feet today. Along south facing reefs, surf will be hazardous at 7 to 9 feet. Avoid venturing near reefs and beaches, especially those facing east and south. Large breaking waves can knock you down and cause serious injuries. Strong rip currents will be life threatening. If caught in a rip current, swim parallel to shore and back toward the beach when possible. Do not try to swim directly against a rip current.
