Governor Lou Leon Guerrero has placed Guam in Condition of Readiness (COR) 3 at 9 p.m. this evening. At COR 3, damaging winds of 39-57 mph are possible within 48 hours. Earlier this afternoon, Rear Adm. Benjamin Nicholson placed the respective military bases in Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness (TCCOR) 3.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor 16W, which has been downgraded from a tropical storm to a tropical depression. As of 10 a.m., the system was located near latitude 12.5 north and longitude 157.0 east, about 775 miles east-southeast of Saipan and 825 miles east of Guam. It is moving west at 15 mph with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph. 16W is expected to maintain this lesser intensity before regaining tropical storm status sometime Monday.

Forty-six (46) new cases of COVID-19 were identified out of 1,373 tests performed on August 12. Thirteen (13) cases were identified through contact tracing. To date, there have been a total of 8,911 officially reported cases of COVID-19 with 143 deaths, 330 cases in active isolation – inclusive of Eleven (11) hospitalized cases with no hospitalized case receiving ICU-level care, and 8,438 not in active isolation. The CAR Score is 8.7.
