National Earthquake Technical Assistance Program Trainings Offered Virtually

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in coordination with the National Earthquake Technical Assistance Program (NETAP), will host two web-based trainings, offered to Guam, CNMI, and Hawaii participants. The following trainings will be held virtually and are free to eligible participants:

  • Reducing Earthquake Risk in the Classroom and Beyond - Thursday, July 22, 2021, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

    • This training teaches participants about the most common earthquake hazards in K-12 schools and empowers them to mitigate these issues. The objectives of the training are to: understand what nonstructural components are and why they matter in earthquakes; learn how to recognize and identify common nonstructural hazards in K-12 schools; and review strategies for mitigating common hazards, including understanding when an engineer/technical consultant should be engaged.
    • The intended audience for this course include school facility managers, administrators, teachers, other school staff, design professionals, emergency managers, and building officials. Registered attendees will also be eligible for Professional Development Hours.
  • FEMA P-2055, Post-disaster Building Safety Evaluation Guidance – Friday, July 23, 2021, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

    • This training provides an overview of existing procedures for post-disaster building safety evaluations and issues related to structural safety and habitability. Guidance is also presented on planning, managing, and implementing safety evaluation programs before and after a disaster incident.
    • The intended audience for this course include architects, engineers, building officials directly involved in post-disaster building safety evaluation, and policy makers, emergency managers, and health officials who are involved in management of the post-disaster evaluation process. Registered attendees will also be eligible for Professional Development Hours.
