Correction to JIC Release No. 964

On Friday, February 18, 2022, the JIC reported one COVID-19-related fatality which occurred at Health Services of the Pacific. The JIC was later informed that the fatality occurred in hospice care. The correction follows:

The 316th COVID-19-related fatality occurred in hospice care on February 8, 2022. The patient was a 57-year-old female, fully vaccinated without a booster shot, with underlying health conditions who tested positive on January 31, 2022.

SPECIAL NOTE: Based on today's data, if we were to compare two (2) hypothetical populations of 100,000 people each, vaccinated versus unvaccinated, there would be 22 vaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19 compared to 289 unvaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19. The risk of being hospitalized for COVID-19 is about 13 times higher for the unvaccinated as compared to the vaccinated. *Estimated population is based on DPHSS Immunization Program analysis of 2020 Census data. Updates are expected pending further Census 2020 data breakdown.

Preliminary COVID-19 Test Results: 179 New Cases of COVID-19

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported a preliminary case count of 179 new cases of COVID-19 from 469 specimens analyzed on February 18, 2022. Additional results are pending analysis and submission from other clinics and will be reported on Monday, February 21, 2022. To date, there have been a total of 42,403 officially reported cases, 316 deaths, 5,032 cases in active isolation, and 37,055 not in active isolation.

Mangilao mAb Treatment Center Reopens

The monoclonal antibody therapy (mAb) Treatment Center located at the Mangilao Senior Citizens Center in Mangilao has reopened for COVID-19 therapeutic services. The hours of operation are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m Monday through Saturday. Patients must receive a referral from a physician in order to qualify for treatment at the Mangilao mAb Treatment Center.

DPHSS Rescinds COVID-19 Testing Screening Guide Memorandum

DPHSS has rescinded its COVID-19 Testing - Screening Guide Memorandum issued on February 4, 2022 which lists the eligibility criteria for individuals to meet for COVID-19 testing. The memorandum was created and issued as part of a risk stratification due to limited availability of COVID-19 tests at the time. In the last few days, DPHSS has received adequate supplies of test kits to offer COVID-19 testing at the old carnival grounds in Tiyan, Barrigada, but continues to urge the community to follow DPHSS Guidance Memorandum 2021-16 Rev02 for when to get tested.

Guam COVID-19 Vaccination Update

As of February 18, 2022, a total of 134,328 of Guam’s eligible population (residents 5 years and older) is fully vaccinated. This total includes 13,204 residents 12 – 17 years old. 7,234 residents 5 – 11 years old received their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech two dose series. 5,092 residents 5 – 11 years old have completed their two-dose series. A total of 53,965 booster shots have been administered to eligible residents since September 29, 2021.

Regularly clean the roof and gutters.
Maintain an area approximately 30’ away from you home that is free of anything that will burn, such as wood piles, dried leaves, newspapers and other brush.
Connect garden hoses long enough to reach any area of the home and fill garbage cans, tubs, or other large containers with water.

Know where to go. If you are ordered to evacuate, know the route to take and have plan of where you will go. Check-in with your friends and family.
Keep your car fueled, in good condition, and stocked with emergency supplies and a change of clothes.

Conserve water

Take shorter showers.

Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving.
Run the washer less frequently and only when you have a full load.
Water your lawn less frequently and do so when the temperature is cooler in the early morning or late evening.
When you run the tap to heat or cool water, keep a pitcher to store the water and use it to water plants.
Avoid washing your car.

Practice fire prevention

Don't set off fireworks when conditions are dry.
Deposit cigarette butts in the proper receptacle to avoid starting a
