DPHSS Issues Guidance Memo 2020-11 Rev14 (Amendment 01)
Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) issued DPHSS Guidance Memo 2020-11 Rev. 14 Amendment 1. Amendment 1 states that effective Sunday, January 16, 2022 at 12:01 a.m., DPHSS will cease processing of passengers and airline crew members of flights from foreign countries wherein vaccination and exception screening is already being facilitated by the airlines in accordance with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

For passengers and airline crew members on flights that are not subject to the provisions of the October 2021 Presidential Declaration (CDC Order), DPHSS will continue the screening process. These flights include departures originating from CNMI, Narita, Honolulu, Island Hopper flights originating from Honolulu, and chartered flights, wherein all passengers and airline crew members arriving from the identified flights listed shall be subject to the DPHSS Guidance Memorandum 2020-11 Rev14. SPECIAL NOTE: Based on today's data, if we were to compare two (2) hypothetical populations of 100,000 people each, vaccinated versus unvaccinated, there would be 12 vaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19 compared to 71 unvaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19. The risk of being hospitalized for COVID-19 is about 6 times higher for the unvaccinated as compared to the vaccinated. *Estimated population is based on DPHSS Immunization Program analysis of 2020 Census data. Updates are expected pending further Census 2020 data breakdown.

COVID-19 Test Results: 198 New Cases of COVID-19
Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported a preliminary case count of 198 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,191 specimens analyzed on January 14, 2022. Additional results are pending analysis and submission from other clinics and will be reported on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. To date, there have been a total of 23,115 officially reported cases, 274 deaths, 3,451 cases in active isolation, and 19,390 not in active isolation.

On Thursday, January 13, 2022, the Governor’s Physician Advisory Group (PAG) endorsed discontinuing the use of the COVID Area Risk (CAR) Score due to changed circumstances. On Friday, January 14, 2022, Governor Leon Guerrero accepted this recommendation. The CAR Score will no longer be included in the daily JIC Releases.

Tiyan COVID-19 Outreach Moves to Appointment-Based Testing, Hours Extended
Community COVID-19 testing at the old carnival grounds in Tiyan, Barrigada has transitioned to an appointment-based system with extended hours. Unscheduled drive-ups will be accepted on a limited basis. Starting Monday, January 17, 2022, symptomatic patients will be prioritized at unscheduled drive-ups. Guam COVID-19 Vaccination Update
As of January 13, 2022, a total of 131,688 of Guam’s eligible population (residents 5 years and older) is fully vaccinated. This total includes 12,957 residents 12 – 17 years old. 5,578 residents 5 – 11 years old received their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech two dose series. 3,549 residents 5 – 11 years old have completed their two-dose series. An additional 297 residents received their booster shots and a total of 44,602 booster shots have been administered to eligible residents since September 29, 2021.

There are many possible causes of floods including heavy rain, coastal storms and storm surge, waterway overflow from being blocked with debris, or overflow of levees, dams, or waste water systems. Flooding can occur slowly over many days or happen very quickly with little or no warning, called flash floods.

Wildfire

Regularly clean the roof and gutters.
Maintain an area approximately 30’ away from you home that is free of anything that will burn, such as wood piles, dried leaves, newspapers and other brush.
Connect garden hoses long enough to reach any area of the home and fill garbage cans, tubs, or other large containers with water.
Review your homeowner's insurance policy and also prepare/update a list of your home's contents.

Fire Weather

Turn on your TV/radio. You’ll get the latest weather updates and emergency instructions.
Know where to go. If you are ordered to evacuate, know the route to take and have plan of where you will go. Check-in with your friends and family.
Keep your car fueled, in good condition, and stocked with emergency supplies and a change of clothes.

Drought

Conserve water

Take shorter showers.

Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving.
Run the washer less frequently and only when you have a full load.
Water your lawn less frequently and do so when the temperature is cooler in the early morning or late evening.
When you run the tap to heat or cool water, keep a pitcher to store the water and use it to water plants.
Avoid washing your car.

Practice fire prevention

Don't set off fireworks when conditions are dry.
Deposit cigarette butts in the proper receptacle to avoid starting a
Pour water over camp fires and backyard fire pits to ensure they are completely out before leaving them unattended.

Follow directions from local officials. If there are restrictions on water usage, be sure to heed them.

“Hurricanes” form in the Atlantic Northeast Pacific region and “Typhoons” form in the Northwest Pacific Region. These large storms are call cyclones in other parts of the world.
