The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) tested 37 individuals for COVID-19 on Thursday, April 23, 2020 with conclusive results. Zero tested positive through DPHSS and 37 tested negative for SARS-CoV-2.One individual was diagnosed as a probable case (formerly termed clinically diagnosed). While probable cases have tested negative, they have imaging findings consistent with COVID-19, display typical COVID-19 symptoms, have epidemiological links to previously confirmed cases, and are being treated as COVID-19 cases.
One additional case was diagnosed by the U.S. Naval Hospital Guam and reported earlier today.
The DPHSS overall count also includes confirmed positive cases tested by the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC) in San Diego, Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA), and Diagnostic Laboratory Services (DLS).
To date, 139 cases have been confirmed through COVID-19 testing provided, with 5 deaths and 126 recoveries. Recovery means a patient is no longer considered infectious. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) research and published guidelines, a patient is classified as recovered after at least 72 hours have passed without a fever or additional respiratory issues and at least seven days have passed since symptoms first appeared. All remaining cases are in isolation.
