JIC RELEASE NO. 400 - 64th COVID-19-Related Fatality Reported

The Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 64th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Memorial Hospital (GMH) at approximately 6:45 p.m. The patient was a 57-year-old male with underlying comorbidities that were compounded by COVID-19. He was admitted to GMH on October 6 and tested positive upon admission.

“To those who loved him, please accept our condolences and sympathies. I hope you find comfort from the love and support of those around you and the knowledge that our island community is keeping you in our thoughts and prayers,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “COVID-19 is a terrible and ruthless virus. It does not care who you are or where you come from. It has touched and taken people from all walks of life. We must not and cannot think that we are somehow immune to this virus. We must not and cannot allow ourselves to falter in our resolve. If you are not taking the necessary precautionary measures to protect yourselves, do so because of those around you, those who may not be as healthy or fortunate as you are.”

The Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center (GBHWC) has a Crisis Hotline that is available 24/7 at (671) 647-8833/4. For those feeling anxious, stressed, overwhelmed or are needing to talk to someone, GBHWC has experienced providers available and ready to assist the community with any heightened stress and anxiety experienced as a result of COVID-19.
