Forty-seventh COVID-19-Related Fatality Reported
The Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s forty-seventh COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) at approximately 2:35 p.m. The patient was a 61-year-old female. She was admitted to GRMC today and was a known positive case.
“Jeff, Lt. Governor Josh, and I express our deepest condolences. Though this loss can feel immeasurable, I hope that you find comfort and peace from those around you,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “It is difficult to face so much death in so few weeks. As an island, we mourn with these families. We share in their grief. And we will do what is necessary to ensure these 47 individuals did not pass in vain.”
The Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center (GBHWC) has a Crisis Hotline that is available 24/7 at (671) 647-8833/4. For those feeling anxious, stressed, overwhelmed or are needing to talk to someone, GBHWC has experienced providers available and ready to assist the community with any heightened stress and anxiety experienced as a result of COVID-19.
Cumulative Results
To date, there have been a total of 2,443 officially reported cases of COVID-19 with 47 deaths, 585 cases in active isolation and 1,811 not in active isolation. Of those cases, 2,172 are classified as civilians and 271 are military service members.
Fifty-three (53) new cases of COVID-19 were reported to the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS). Of the 53 newly reported cases, eight cases were identified through contact tracing.

Governor Signs Executive Order No. 2020-35
Today, Governor Lou Leon Guerrero signed Executive Order (EO) No. 2020-35, relative to extending the public health emergency and providing financial assistance to medical and health providers and families of COVID-19 fatalities.
EO 2020-35 extends the public health emergency originally set to expire on September 30 to October 30, 2020.
EO 2020-35 also creates the Healthcare System Stabilization Grant Program and the COVID-19 Bereavement Assistance Fund. Through the Guam Economic Development Authority, the Healthcare System Stabilization Grant Program provides aid for Tier 1 and Tier 2 clinics and for other qualified medical and mental health providers. The program will end December 31, 2020.
The COVID-19 Bereavement Assistance Fund was created to assist the families of individuals who have died due to COVID-19 or COVID-19 related complications by providing one-time grants of $10,000.00 per decedent. This relief shall be distributed in accordance with program requirements, which shall include the following requirements:
- Identifies Guam residents who have died due to COVID-19 or COVID-19 related complications, as determined by the Guam Memorial Hospital Authority.
- Ensures that a proper recipient of the grant is identified, pursuant to program guidelines.
- Provides a system of reporting, including auditable certification to ensure accountability.
These financial programs are currently still in development and more information will be announced at a later date.
