Residents who sought shelter in George Washington High School, Talo’fo’fo Elementary School, and Merizo Martyrs Memorial School will be consolidated into Maria A. Ulloa Elementary School.
Following this consolidation, the only evacuation centers that will remain operational are Astumbo Elementary School, Machananao Elementary School, and Maria A. Ulloa Elementary School.
These evacuation centers will continue to operate for those who are currently evacuated in GDOE centers.
Open Burning Authorized for Green Waste Only
The Guam Fire Department advises the public that open burning is currently authorized for green waste only (e.g., vegetation, yard trimmings). No permit is required at this time.
Open burning is strictly permitted between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. only
Residents choosing to burn must adhere to the following safety guidelines:
- Burn piles must not exceed 5 feet by 5 feet
- A readily available water source must be on site for immediate extinguishment
- Do not burn near homes, structures, or any materials that may easily catch fire
- Be mindful of surrounding neighbors, including smoke conditions and wind direction
- Notify your nearest fire station prior to burning
Personnel from the Guam Fire Department will be conducting site inspections, public education, and fire prevention outreach throughout this period.
Failure to follow these guidelines may result in the extinguishment of the fire and possible enforcement action. The Guam Fire Department thanks the community for their cooperation in maintaining safety.
