Guam remains in Condition of Readiness (COR) 1. Joint Region Marianas remains in TCCOR 1E, indicating destructive winds of 50 knots (57 mph) or greater are occurring. Installation access points are closed, with the exception of U.S. Naval Hospital Guam for emergency department access only. REMAIN INDOORS UNTIL COR 4 IS ANNOUNCED.
Sinlaku has been downgraded from a Super Typhoon to a Typhoon. Guam remains under both a tropical storm warning and a typhoon watch. As of 1 a.m., Typhoon Sinlaku was located 15.1N and 145.7E, 125 miles north-northeast of Guam. It is moving northwest at 5 mph with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph.
Typhoon Sinlaku will begin to pull away to the northwest from Tinian and Saipan over the next few hours, then it will begin to pass through the northern CNMI just west of the islands of Alamagan, Pagan, and Agrihan through the latter half of the week.
Guam can expect:
-
Severe tropical storm force conditions to persist across Guam as rain bands continue to train over the island bringing heavy showers and wind gusts up to 70 mph. Those severe tropical storm force winds will gradually subside through daybreak but damaging tropical storm force winds of 39 mph or more will continue through midday. Such winds will continue to pose risk to public safety, infrastructure and power lines.
-
Residents and visitors to remain in a safe shelter until the Governor declares COR 4.
-
Peak conditions with sustained winds of 40 to 60 mph and gusts of 70 to 85 mph decreasing through the morning, eventually falling to between 20 and 30 mph by this afternoon.
-
Tropical storm force winds of 39 mph or more are expected to continue until Wednesday afternoon.
-
Stay out of the water; conditions are life threatening. Dangerous sea conditions are expected to last until the end of the week.
