UPDATE: Response to LP Gas Tanker Crash; Roadways Remain Closed

As of 9:15 p.m, the LP gas tanker that crashed on Rt. 2 into Humåtak, continues to emit and release its contents. According to the Guam Fire Department (GFD), the driver and sole occupant of the truck was initially assessed; however, due to fatal injuries sustained in the crash, emergency health care was withheld.

The high concentration and flammability of LP gas vapors at the crash site, combined with the instability of the tanker truck, continues to prevent safe extrication of the operator by emergency personnel. GFD units will remain at the scene and conduct air monitoring in the vicinity of the LP gas release. Once the LP gas tank has purged completely and vapors reach safe levels, GFD personnel will perform extrication.

Although the surrounding residential area is outside of the hazardous zone, GFD is working with the Humåtak Mayor to ensure residents are safe. Both southbound and northbound roads on Rt. 2 into Humåtak will remain closed to traffic. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes until further notice. The Joint Information Center will provide additional information once available.
