SPECIAL NOTE: Based on today's data, if we were to compare two (2) hypothetical populations of 100,000 people each, vaccinated versus unvaccinated, there would be 9 vaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19 compared to 54 unvaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19. The risk of being hospitalized for COVID-19 is about 6 times higher for the unvaccinated as compared to the vaccinated. *Estimated population is based on DPHSS Immunization Program analysis of 2020 Census data. Updates are expected pending further Census 2020 data breakdown.

385th COVID-19-related Fatality Reported

The Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 385th COVID-19-related fatality was pronounced dead on arrival at the Guam Memorial Hospital on August 10, 2022. The patient was a 70-year-old male, fully vaccinated without a booster, with underlying health conditions, who tested positive on August 10.

“Again, we mourn the passing of another loved one to this deadly virus. To his family and friends, Jeff, Josh, and I extend our deepest sympathies and condolences, and the island of Guam grieves with you,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “We are learning to live with this virus, and our greatest defense continues to be the vaccine. We call on our community to stay up to date with their vaccinations for the maximum protection from severe illness and hospitalization.”
