COVID-19 Test Results: 33 New Cases Reported

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 33 new cases of COVID-19 from 517 specimens analyzed on April 5, 2022. Nine of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 47,462 officially reported cases, 352 deaths, 285 cases in active isolation, and 46,825 not in active isolation.

SPECIAL NOTE: Based on today's data, if we were to compare two (2) hypothetical populations of 100,000 people each, vaccinated versus unvaccinated, there would be 7 vaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19 compared to 72 unvaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19. The risk of being hospitalized for COVID-19 is about 10 times higher for the unvaccinated as compared to the vaccinated. *Estimated population is based on DPHSS Immunization Program analysis of 2020 Census data. Updates are expected pending further Census 2020 data breakdown.

Health Declaration Form No Longer Required Upon Entry to Guam

As a reminder to all incoming travelers to Guam, in accordance with Executive Order No. 2022-09 and DPHSS Guidance Memo 2020-11 Rev. 15, all incoming travelers will not be subject to quarantine and, effective March 30, 2022, DPHSS ceased processing passengers and airline crewmembers. Therefore, health declaration forms are no longer necessary to be completed or submitted to DPHSS upon entry into Guam.

Mangilao mAb Treatment Center

Monoclonal antibody therapy (mAb) treatment is available at the mAb Treatment Center at the Mangilao Senior Citizens Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m Monday through Saturday for patients with a referral from a physician. To schedule an appointment, call (671) 998-4627.

Guam COVID-19 Vaccination Update

As of April 5, 2022, a total of 136,058 of Guam’s eligible population (residents 5 years and older) is fully vaccinated. This total includes 13,800 residents 12 – 17 years old. 7,793 residents 5 – 11 years old received their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech two dose series. 6,148 residents 5 – 11 years old have completed their two-dose series. A total of 57,496 booster shots have been administered to eligible residents since September 29, 2021.

There are many possible causes of floods including heavy rain, coastal storms and storm surge, waterway overflow from being blocked with debris, or overflow of levees, dams, or waste water systems. Wildfire

Regularly clean the roof and gutters.
Maintain an area approximately 30’ away from you home that is free of anything that will burn, such as wood piles, dried leaves, newspapers and other brush.
Connect garden hoses long enough to reach any area of the home and fill garbage cans, tubs, or other large containers with water.
Review your homeowner's insurance policy and also prepare/update a list of your home's contents.

Fire Weather

Turn on your TV/radio. You’ll get the latest weather updates and emergency instructions.
Know where to go. If you are ordered to evacuate, know the route to take and have plan of where you will go. Check-in with your friends and family.
Keep your car fueled, in good condition, and stocked with emergency supplies and a change of clothes.

Drought

Conserve water

Take shorter showers.

Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving.
Run the washer less frequently and only when you have a full load.
Water your lawn less frequently and do so when the temperature is cooler in the early morning or late evening.
When you run the tap to heat or cool water, keep a pitcher to store the water and use it to water plants.
Avoid washing your car.

Practice fire prevention

Don't set off fireworks when conditions are dry.
Deposit cigarette butts in the proper receptacle to avoid starting a
Pour water over camp fires and backyard fire pits to ensure they are completely out before leaving them unattended.

Typhoons/Hurricanes are massive storm systems that form over the water and move toward land. Threats from typhoons/hurricanes include high winds, heavy rainfall, storm surge, coastal and inland flooding, and rip currents.

“Hurricanes” form in the Atlantic Northeast Pacific region and “Typhoons” form in the Northwest Pacific Region. These large storms are call cyclones in other parts of the world.
