JIC Recovery Release No. 5 - Traffic Control to Resume Tomorrow; Practice Caution on the Roadways

The Guam Police Department (GPD) and the Guam National Guard (GUNG) will end traffic control at four way intersections with non-functional traffic lights at 6 p.m. this evening and resume traffic control operations at 6 a.m. Wednesday.

To ensure safe passage on the roadways after Typhoon Mangkhut, GPD and GUNG were designated to various intersections across the island this early afternoon, to direct traffic in a safe and orderly fashion.

In the absence of Guam Police Department and Guam National Guard personnel at the traffic intersections, follow these important safety tips:
  • Reduce speed and proceed with caution
  • Allow enough braking distance between vehicles
  • Treat intersections as four way stops
  • Observe your surroundings at all times
  • Watch for debris on the side of the roadways – DPW have cleared major routes but staged debris may still be roads

For more information, contact the Guan Homeland Security / Office of Civil Defense 24/7 watch desk at (671) 475-9600 or (671) 482-7019.
