Large breaking waves of 8 to 11 feet and dangerous rip currents expected. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions with localized beach erosion expected.
Strengthening trade swell and localized wind waves, in addition to incoming north swell, are expected to produce sea conditions hazardous to small craft. East winds 15 to 20 kt with frequent gusts up to 25 kt and seas 8 to 11 feet expected.
Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore and into deep water.
The offices of Guam Homeland Security/Civil Defense remind residents:
- Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions
- Swim near a lifeguard.
- If caught in a rip current, relax and float.
- Don`t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline.
- If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
