Heavy Rainfall Possible Next Week; Prepare to Take Action if Flooding Occurs

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a hydrologic outlook for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan. A developing monsoon trough combined with a possible tropical disturbance is expected to bring heavy rain to the Marianas from Tuesday to Friday next week. Models vary on the expected rainfall amounts but the developing situation looks very favorable for locally heavy rainfall capable of producing flash flooding across the Marianas.

Localized flooding will be possible in low-lying and poor drainage areas, while flash flooding will be possible in areas of heaviest rainfall, especially near steep terrain. Those living in flood-prone areas should keep aware of conditions in the event of heavy showers over the island; clear drainage areas and unblock clogged storm drains in your area to minimize flooding and watch for any additional advisories.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in coordination with NWS, will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates. GHS/OCD reminds the community to stay up to date with the latest information and watch for possible advisories in the coming days.
