The community is advised to remain out of the water due to life-threatening surf conditions. Stay off jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure.
The following NWS advisories will be in effect this weekend:
A high surf warning will be in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan from 4 a.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Sunday. Dangerously large breaking waves of 12 to 15 feet are expected.
A high surf advisory is in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through Sunday afternoon. Large breaking waves of 9 to 10 feet are expected in the surf zone.
A high risk of rip currents is in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through Sunday afternoon. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from the shore into deeper water. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous conditions. If caught in a rip current, do not swim against the current. Swim in a direction following the shoreline, face the shore and call or wave for help.
The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind the community to avoid hazardous surf and stay out of the water through Sunday.
