GHS/OCD to Host 2018 Statewide Communications Interoperability Plan Workshop

GHS/OCD to Host 2018 Statewide Communications Interoperability Plan Workshop

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in coordination with the Statewide Interoperability Coordinator, and the Department of Homeland (DHS) Office of Emergency Communications (OEC), is hosting the 2018 Statewide Communications Interoperability Plan (SCIP) Workshop on October 23 - 24, 2018 at the GHS/OCD facility in Agana Heights from 8:30 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.

The two-day workshop will be facilitated by DHS OEC to assist Guam in developing an island-wide strategic plan for improvement in emergency communications interoperability across land mobile radio, broadband, 911 and emergency alerts and notifications. During the SCIP Workshop, participants will develop goals and objectives, while discussing strengths and challenges, to build a collective safety communications vision for Guam.

Attendees for the workshop include various Government of Guam agencies, military, federal partners, private, and non-profit organizations that play an active role in emergency management and the SCIP.

“It is important to tap on the resources while they are here and have these open discussions with our partners at DHS,” stated Governor Eddie Baza Calvo. “The workshop will allow all local stakeholders to discuss the state of Guam’s interoperability between emergency responders and pave the way forward with goal development for what that will look like in the near future.”

“It begins with workshops such as these to finalize plans in order to build a stronger emergency communications system,” stated Lieutenant Governor Ray Tenorio. “We look forward to the successful outcome of the workshop and the continued partnerships in emergency response and public safety.”
