Flood Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued an urban and small stream flood advisory in effect for Guam until 3:15 a.m. Between 0.8 and 1.2 inches of rain has already fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected.

Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas, water on roadways, and overflowing of poor drainage areas are expected.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Dededo, Tamuning, Yigo, Mangilao, Ordot-Chalan Pago, Barrigada, Yona, Agana Heights, Andersen AFB, Talofofo, Mongmong-Toto-Maite, Sinajana, Inarajan, Asan, Merizo, Piti, Santa Rita, and Umatac.

A high risk of rip currents remains in effect for east facing reefs of Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through 6 a.m. Friday. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from the shore into deeper water. Remain out of the water.

A small craft advisory remains in effect for the coastal waters of Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 6 a.m. Friday. Winds of 15 to 20 knots with frequent gusts to 25 knots are expected. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind the community to practice caution while traveling in rainy conditions, driving below the speed limit and allowing enough braking distance between vehicles.
