The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in coordination with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), will host the Final Plan Brief and Signing Ceremony for the 2018 Guam Catastrophic Typhoon Plan. The brief and signing ceremony will be held, February 13, 2018 at the Cabinet Conference Room, Governor Bordallo Complex, in Hagatna, Guam at 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
The finalized plan is Guam’s update to the 2010 Guam Catastrophic Typhoon Plan. The effort kicked off in February 2016. In this final meeting of the Senior Leadership Steering Committee, FEMA and Guam planners will present a brief review of the plan, its organization, and highlight critical responses developed for approval.
Once the brief is complete, the Honorable Eddie Calvo, Governor of Guam and Mr. Robert Fenton, FEMA Region IX Administrator will jointly sign the plan, committing to train, exercise and execute this plan.
The Catastrophic Plan was originally created in 2010 by GHS/OCD and FEMA and is now finalized. The comprehensive Catastrophic Typhoon Plan presents the results of research and analysis and hard work done by the core planning team over the last two years. The final plan is a crucial component of disaster planning that addresses and provides a guide to the protocols, procedures, and division of responsibilities in emergency response.
"The Catastrophic Plan further develops response strategies for the local and federal government," stated Governor Calvo. “It is important for all parties involved to familiarize and exercise plans in place so we’re prepared to act if and when catastrophic events do occur. The planning effort has been insurmountable in further preparing Guam for severe weather conditions that occur now or the years to come.”
"The Catastrophic Plan involves a collective effort and provides Guam and FEMA leadership with essential methods and effective strategies by delivering a joint plan that can be continually evaluated, and improved to better prepare for and respond to disasters," said FEMA Region IX Regional Administrator, Robert Fenton.
