4:10 p.m. Heavy Rainfall Expected Late in the Weekend through Next Week

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a hydrologic outlook for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan.

A tropical disturbance, Invest 99W, is centered east-southeast of Guam near 10.6N 152.8E. This system remains disorganized, but it is expected to move toward the Marianas late this weekend into next week. 99W is expected to bring heavy rainfall to the Marianas from Sunday night through at least Thursday night.

There is potential for Guam and the CNMI to see rainfall amounts of 3 to 7 inches from Sunday night through Thursday night, with locally higher amounts possible. This rainfall is expected to produce minor flooding across the islands, with flash flooding possible in areas of higher rainfall, especially over Guam.

Residents and visitors are advised to take the following precautionary actions:
  • Those living in flood-prone areas should take action; clear drainage areas and unblock storm drains to minimize flooding;
  • Stay up to date with the latest weather information;
  • When driving in heavy rain, be alert for low visibilities and slippery roads;
  • Slow down where water is ponding on the road.

The Office of Homeland Security and the Office of Civil Defense (OHS-OCD) remind the community to be alert for additional advisories in the coming days.
