1:00 p.m. OHS-OCD Promotes September as National Preparedness Month

The Office of Guam Homeland Security and the Office of Civil Defense (OHS-OCD) invite the island to celebrate September as National Preparedness Month (NPM). To commemorate the month, Governor Lou Leon Guerrero will declare NPM with a proclamation signing on Friday, September 5, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. at the Ricardo J. Bordallo Governor’s Complex, Large Conference Room.

NPM is an observance each September to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time.

"National Preparedness Month is a vital reminder that resilience starts with each of us,” said Esther Aguigui, Homeland Security Advisor. “Guam faces unique challenges – from typhoons to earthquakes to other emergencies, such as human-caused threats – so it is critical that every family, business, and community member take steps now to be ready. Preparedness today means a safer, more secure tomorrow.”

Along with building an emergency preparedness kit and making a family communication plan, the community is encouraged to follow OHS-OCD online, on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram to view preparedness tips and activities by emergency management partners. The community can also participate by promoting individual and community activities and preparedness tips with resources available at https://www.ready.gov/september.
