Three AHAWS Sirens to be Tested on January 19

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense will be conducting tests of the All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) sirens from three different locations on Friday, January 19, between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

  • Port Authority of Guam (PAG)
  • Ft. Soledad, Umatac
  • Ija Agricultural Station, Inarajan

The siren test at PAG is being conducted in support of the U.S. Coast Guard’s annual inspection.

The siren tests from Umatac and Inarajan are being conducted to test operations since recently being fixed. If there are no issues with the test, all 15 AHAWS sirens will be fully operational.

Residents, visitors and motorists surrounding the three AHAWS sirens can expect to hear pre-scripted voice messaging announcing the start and end of the test, and the “Alert” tone, which can be heard here: http://www.whelen.com/mass/audio/Euro%20Tones%20Wav%20Files/Alert.wav.

Tomorrow’s test of the three AHAWS sirens is separate from the pre-scheduled monthly test of all 15 AHAWS sirens. Future tests of the AHAWS sirens will continue to be conducted on a monthly basis and will typically fall on the first Tuesday of each month.
