NWS Special Weather Statement

The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office Guam is tracking a circulation south of Guam that is expected to strengthen the Monsoon over Micronesia.
A large tropical disturbance located between Yap and Chuuk is expected to gradually develop within the next few days. It is expected to pass through Yap and Guam around Thursday.

Although there is no significant development at this time, we can expect heavy showers with gusts of southwest to south monsoon winds, and choppy seas to persist for the next few days.

A high surf advisory is in effect for south and west facing shores. Surf up to 6 to 8 feet along south and west facing shores will become hazardous as surf builds up to between 7 to 10 feet due to increasing monsoon swell. Southwest swell is expected to decrease Thursday with surf falling below hazardous levels by Thursday night.

Avoid venturing near reef lines and exposed beaches in the south and west areas.

If driving, be alert for poor visibility and water covering the road or mudslides from heavy showers. Seek shelter if lightning is seen or thunder is heard.
