What to Expect:
As of 7 p.m., Super Typhoon Bavi was located at 13.6N 147.6E, 190 miles east of Guam. It is moving northwest at 10 mph with maximum sustained winds of 165 mph. Bavi is expected to pass through the Marianas, between Rota and Tinian, or just north of Rota, around 8 a.m. Monday morning.
Based on the current forecast, Guam can expect:
- Sustained tropical storm-force winds are expected to begin this evening and will continue to increase overnight, peaking Monday morning as Bavi makes its passage
- All of Guam can expect strong tropical storm force winds of 58 to 73 mph, while the northern edge of Guam may experience Category 1 typhoon force winds, with maximum speeds forecast to be in the 60 to 80 mph range, with gusts to 100 mph. Any southward shift could bring heavier winds to more of Guam.
- The worst conditions are expected between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. Monday, July 6
- Closest Point of Approach (CPA) to Guam is expected around mid-Monday morning
- Loose outdoor items will become projectiles, causing additional damage and possible injury.
- Stay out of the water; conditions are life-threatening. Dangerous sea conditions are expected to last until Thursday.
Emergency Evacuation Centers Update
As of 8 p.m., occupancy levels for each center are listed below. Currently, centers have reached over 50 percent capacity. Hazardous conditions are beginning to intensify. Individuals who require shelter are strongly urged to seek shelter as soon as possible and not delay.
IMPORTANT: Astumbo Elementary School has reached maximum capacity, and those who are seeking shelter are being redirected to Maria A. Ulloa Elementary School.
