Guam Remains in COR 2; Emergency Shelters Open
Guam remains in Condition of Readiness (COR) 2. A typhoon warning remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan, meaning typhoon force winds of 74 mph or more are expected, with the onset of damaging winds of 39 mph or more, expected within 24 hours. As of 7 a.m., Super Typhoon Bavi was located 12.9N 149.2E, 300 miles east of Guam. It is moving west-northwest at 7 mph with maximum sustained winds of 160 mph.
What to Expect:
Bavi is expected to intensify further in the coming 24 hours, just prior to passage through the Marianas, very likely near, or over Rota. As currently forecast, Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan will experience some degree of typhoon force winds; with potentially catastrophic, super typhoon force winds (greater than 150 mph) over Rota, if Bavi makes a direct passage over the island on Monday. Based on the current forecast Guam can expect:

Sustained tropical storm force winds are expected to begin late this afternoon.

Maximum sustained winds are forecast to be in the 60 to 80 mph range with gusts to 100 mph possible.

NOTE: Any southward shift could bring heavier winds to Guam.

Poorly constructed metal roof homes will have substantial damage and could become uninhabitable.

Loose outdoor items will become projectiles, causing additional damage and possible injury.

Stay out of the water; conditions are life threatening. Dangerous sea conditions are expected to last until Thursday.
Emergency Shelters Open
The government of Guam opened the following Emergency Evacuation Centers beginning at 7:00 a.m. today, July 5. Residents who anticipate needing emergency shelter should go to their nearest Emergency Evacuation Center before conditions deteriorate and bring essential supplies for every member of their household.

Residents Should Bring the Following Items:

Important documents, including birth certificates, passports, and immunization records
Shelter Reminders:

Registration is required upon arrival

Children must remain under parental supervision at all times

Alcohol, illegal drugs, weapons, and pets are prohibited

Smoking is only permitted in designated areas

Cooking devices are not allowed

Individuals should remain at the shelter until authorities declare it safe to leave
Emergency Shelter Transportation Assistance:
Transportation to Emergency Evacuation Centers is available through village mayor's offices. Residents needing transportation should contact their village mayor's office as soon as possible to make arrangements. The Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center (GBHWC) Suicide & Crisis Lifeline remains available 24 hours a day. Individuals experiencing emotional distress before, during, or after the storm may call or text 988 or chat online at 988lifeline.org.
