Final Bavi Update from NWS
After nearly a week of preparedness, planning and actions to take shelter from the developing super typhoon, and a morning of damage and destruction, Super Typhoon Bavi is now exiting the region to the west. Bavi is on a track that will take it toward the western Philippine Sea, perhaps toward Taiwan or the southwestern islands of Japan. As of Monday night Bavi was moving west at 13 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds of 165 mph. The wind field of Super Typhoon Bavi is expanding, with typhoon force winds extending outward from the center up to 70 miles, while tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 320 miles. Bavi is expected to maintain its intensity for another day or two, before beginning a very gradual weakening trend.
The National Weather Service said the Weather Alert issued Monday night would be the last on Super Typhoon Bavi. Other ongoing hazards include a High Surf Warning and a Coastal Flood Warning due to the ongoing significant sea and surf hazards, and resulting in some coastal inundation and potentially deadly rip currents. GWA Update
The Guam Waterworks Authority (GWA) reports that 67 of the 99 water wells that were operational before the storm are currently online and operating on generator power. An additional 28 wells remain offline, while the operational status of the remaining four wells is still being verified.
