Super Typhoon Bavi has made its closest point of approach to Guam, and the island remains in Condition of Readiness (COR) 1. All military bases remain in Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness (TCCOR) 1. Remain indoors until COR 4 is announced.
REMAIN INDOORS – Impassable Roadways Reported
The following roadways and areas have been reported as impassable or hazardous due to flooding, fallen trees, downed utility lines, rockslides, and other storm-related damage. Do not attempt to drive around barricades or through flooded roadways.
Stay off the road. Any additional vehicles on the road hinders emergency responders and delays the expedited clearing of the roads.
The following locations have been reported as impassable or unsafe:
Pago Bay Road, Chalan Pago – Impassable
Pulantat Road, Yona – Impassable
Route 17, Tarzan Falls, and Bishop Apuron St. - Impassable due to downed trees
Governor Carlos G. Camacho Road (formerly Camp Watkins), Tamuning – Downed power lines and storm debris are blocking the roadway. This route affects access to the hospital and is being assessed for clearance.
Route 1, East Hagåtña – Hazards have been reported; roadway status is being verified.
Tumon (former DFS area) – Roadway impassable due to storm damage, including downed solar lighting.
Northbound lane San Vitores by Ypao - Impassable
Marine Corps Drive (East Hagåtña through Piti) – Large rocks and debris reported along the roadway. Northbound lanes are obstructed.
Polaris Point area – Northbound lanes flooded.
For the safety of emergency responders and the public, comprehensive damage assessments will begin at first light when weather conditions allow crews to safely deploy. Roadway conditions may change as assessments continue.
Remain sheltered in place and avoid unnecessary travel until officials announce that it is safe to do so. Even if a roadway appears passable, dangerous conditions remain. Flying debris, weakened tree branches, downed utility lines, and other storm hazards can become airborne or fall without warning, creating life-threatening conditions for motorists and pedestrians. The situation remains unsafe for travel.
Weather Update:
Although Bavi continues to pull away from the Marianas, tropical storm force conditions are expected to continue overnight, departing sometime in the early morning hours.
The eyewall of Super Typhoon Bavi made a direct passage over Rota this morning. Although the storm is moving away from the islands, hazardous conditions remain.
For Guam, sustained winds of 40 to 60 mph, with gusts up to 90 mph, will continue to decrease through tonight. Additional rainfall accumulations of 5 to 10 inches are possible.
Stay out of the water and away from shorelines until conditions improve. Life-threatening surf and dangerous marine conditions are expected to continue through Thursday.
