As of this hour, Super Typhoon Bavi has made its closest point of approach to Guam, and the island remains in Condition of Readiness (COR) 1. All military bases remain in Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness (TCCOR) 1. Remain indoors until COR 4 is announced.
Weather Update:
As of 2 p.m., Super Typhoon Bavi was located at 14.8N, 144.4E, 75 miles north-northwest of Guam. It is moving west-northwest at 13 mph with maximum sustained winds of 175 mph. Bavi is forecast to remain a Category 5 Super Typhoon through Wednesday as it continues to pull away from the Marianas. With this, winds will gradually decrease across the Marianas, however, tropical storm force conditions are expected to continue overnight, departing sometime in the early morning hours.
The eyewall of Super Typhoon Bavi made a direct passage over Rota this morning. Although the storm is moving away from the islands, hazardous conditions remain.
For Guam, sustained winds of 45 to 60 mph, with gusts up to 80 mph, are expected to continue through this afternoon. Rainfall totals of 4 to 6 inches remain possible during Bavi's passage, and a flood watch remains in effect through late Tuesday night. Heavy rain and thunderstorms may result in flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Remain indoors and off the roadways until COR 4 is announced. Impassable roadways are expected, posing a danger to life and safety.
Stay out of the water and away from shorelines until conditions improve. Life-threatening surf and dangerous marine conditions are expected to continue through Thursday.
GWA Update
The Guam Waterworks Authority (GWA) has received reports of low to no water service in parts of the island as a result of Super Typhoon Bavi, including:

Shortly before midnight on July 5, the Ugum Surface Water Treatment Plant was secured due to high turbidity levels due to flash flooding sustained during Bavi’s passage. Well status remains unchanged from the previous report, with 97 wells online and 59 of those operating on standby power generation.
Customers are reminded that outages and instances of low to no pressure will occur as system adjustments may be performed at wells, pump stations, and reservoirs to respond to power loss, fluctuations, refueling, or servicing generators.
Once weather permits and operations may be carried out safely, GWA crews will make assessments to the distribution system and address pressure issues. GWA electrical teams will work with Guam Power Authority (GPA) to power wells, reservoirs and pump stations impacted by the storm.
The Northern District Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is online on generator power and fully treating all flows received, however, the Route 3 pump station is not fully operational and is resulting in reduced flow from this station. The Hagåtña, Agat-Santa Rita and Umatac-Merizo WWTPs are online on generator power.
GWA Dispatch operators have received three (3) reports of possible sewer overflows in Dededo, Malesso’ and Yigo. GWA crews have been notified and will respond when conditions are safe to do so. Customers are reminded that inflow and infiltration (I&I) caused by Bavi’s heavy rainfall will impact the wastewater collection operations and lead to potential backups and overflows.
