Guam and the respective military bases remain in Condition of Readiness (COR) 1 and Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness (TCCOR) 1 as of 12 p.m., July 5, 2026.
What’s Happening:
As of 9:17 a.m, ChST, the National Weather Service reports the eyewall of Super Typhoon Bavi is passing over Rota, where an Extreme Wind Warning remains in effect for catastrophic winds in excess of 150 mph. NWS cautions that after a brief lull as the eye passes, extremely dangerous winds will return on the back side of the storm. Guam continues to experience sustained winds of 50 to 80 mph with gusts to 100 mph, which NWS expects to continue through late this afternoon. Based on a report received by the National Weather Service, sustained winds of 69 mph with gusts to 100 mph have occurred at Guam International Airport. Residents should remain sheltered in place. NWS continues to describe this as an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation.
What To Expect:

Closest Point of Approach (CPA): The worst conditions are ongoing and expected through 12 p.m. today. While the storm's CPA is expected to occur through this morning, this does not mean the danger has passed.

Remain indoors until COR 4 is announced, and do not let your guard down.

Tropical storm-force winds are expected to continue through early Tuesday morning.

Strong winds can bring down trees, power lines, and other debris, creating life-threatening hazards.

Wind: Sustained winds of 50 to 80 mph with gusts up to 100 mph will continue through this afternoon.

Rain: Rainfall between 8 and 12 inches is expected during Bavi’s passage. A flood watch remains in effect through late Tuesday night; intense showers and thunderstorms could produce flooding across the island.

Stay Out of the Water: Life-Threatening sea conditions are expected to last until Thursday.
GPA Update
Guam Power Authority (GPA) crews secured from aerial (bucket truck lift) and ground work around 11:45
p.m. last night, due to dangerous winds and strong gusts from Super Typhoon Bavi.
GPA is aware of multiple outages caused by strong winds and gusts, including down transmission lines
affecting most customers. As wind gusts increase, additional outages are likely. Crews are prepared to
immediately begin key assessments and restoration efforts as soon as winds decrease to safe levels.
This will begin the recovery phase of the Island-Wide Power System (IWPS) around Guam. Each GPA
crew will continue to work at least 12-16 hours per day once restoration begins.
Power Status
At this time, Guam's IWPS has not experienced a system blackout, the main transmission lines
powering the southern part of the island went down, with no power currently servicing the south.
As of 10:00 a.m., GPA had 25% of distribution feeders still online, including Andersen Air Force Base and
Camp Blaz, Guam Memorial Hospital (GMH), and Tumon row underground systems.
However, GPA may lose additional feeders as the storm continues to pass throughout the island.
All remaining distribution feeders that are currently offline will remain out until we begin our assessments
and restoration process once it is safe to do so.
Initial priorities of GPA crews include repairing all transmission lines and powering substations.
Please stay away from all down lines and equipment as they may still be energized and can cause harm if you come in contact with the lines or equipment. Consider such situations as dangerous and life-threatening.
