The Guam Solid Waste Authority has resumed operations. Its adjusted residential trash collection schedule is:
- Tuesday collections (7/7) are taking place today, Wednesday (7/8)
- Wednesday collections (7/8) are taking place on Thursday (7/9)
- Thursday collections (7/9) are taking place on Friday (7/10)
- On Saturday (7/11), recycling collection for this week will take place
- Residential collections resume the regular schedule next Monday, July 13
Transfer stations have opened and will operate through next Monday, July 13. Transfer stations will be closed, as usual, next Tuesday and Wednesday, July 14-15, and resume regularly scheduled operations on Thursday, July 16. There is no “free” disposal at transfer stations. Regular rates and rules for what waste will be accepted are in place.
Homebound Voting for Primary Election Begins, Early Voting Starts Thursday
The Guam Election Commission resumed homebound voting for the Primary Election today, July 8. Voters needing the service can call 671-477-9791 to schedule an appointment. An application is required for the service, and GEC staff will assist with the process over the phone.
Early voting begins tomorrow, July 9, at the Westin Resort Guam. This early voting center will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday until July 25. Residents are able to register and vote at the same time at this location until July 17. Curbside voting and Expressvote machines are available for those who require accessibility services. GPA Advisory: Damaged Weatherheads and Electrical Components
GPA is advising customers to inspect their homes and properties for damaged weatherheads and other electrical components, including meter boxes, service entrance conduits and cables, and risers. These components are the customer’s responsibility, and any repairs to damaged equipment must be completed before GPA can connect service.
Steps to follow if you have damaged electrical equipment:
- Visit a GPA Customer Service lobby to request a work clearance and receive a GPA Electrical Inspection Report form.
- Wait for GPA to remove the service line and meter before hiring a licensed master electrician or a licensed electrician to carry out the necessary repairs. A list of licensed professionals is available on the Guam Contractors License Board website at http://clb.guam.gov/index.php/contractors-listing/.
- Have the electrician sign the inspection report with their name and license number, then take the report to the Department of Public Works for approval
- Notify GPA once repairs are complete by contacting GPA Customer Service at (671) 647-5787/88/89, emailing customersfirst@gpagwa.com, or sending a direct message to the GPA Facebook page. GPA will then schedule meter installation and service line reconnection. Customers must present the approved Electrical Inspection report to the GPA crew upon arrival.
Temporary Relocation of I Kumision
Due to power issues, I Kumisión i Fino’ CHamoru yan i Fina’nå’guen i Historia yan i Lina’la’ i Taotao Tåno’ has temporarily relocated from its offices at the Bell Tower in Hagåtña to the Maga'låhen Hurao CHamoru Academy Charter School in Barrigada (the former San Vicente Catholic School) until further notice. How to Legally Burn Typhoon Debris
The Guam Fire Department reminds the community that outdoor burning is only authorized with a valid burn permit issued by the fire station serving your village.
Burn permits will only be issued when conditions allow, following a site inspection, and are limited to the burning of green waste only. Individuals who conduct unauthorized burning or fail to comply with burn permit requirements may be subject to citations, fines, and other enforcement actions in accordance with applicable Guam laws and regulations. The Guam Fire Department appreciates the public's cooperation in helping protect lives, property, and emergency response resources during the recovery period.
Stay Out of the Water - Conditions are Life-Threatening
Everyone should remain out of the water due to life-threatening conditions. Stay off of jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure:
- High-risk of rip currents, which may be life-threatening, is in effect through Friday afternoon.
- Coastal Flood Advisory in effect until 4 p.m. Wednesday. Dangerously large breaking waves up to 16 feet and minor coastal flooding are expected.
- High Surf Warning is in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday. of up to 16 ft. and coastal inundation of 1 to 2 ft. can be expected now through late this afternoon, especially along west-facing shores. Even so, surf will remain elevated enough to continue to produce high risk of rip currents along south, west and north facing reefs the next few days, while dropping to moderate along north reefs Thursday. Life-threatening swimming conditions can be expected.
