GWA by the Numbers
Current System Status As Of 1 P.M. Today:
- 93 wells online — 90 on the island power and 3 on generator power.
- 100% of booster pump stations are online.
- The Ugum Surface Water Treatment Plant and the Tumon Maui are online and now on island power. Santa Rita Springs remains on generator power.
- 100% of wastewater treatment plants are operational, 4 of them on island power.
- 98% of sewer pump stations are online
GWA estimates that approximately 96% of customers had water restored within a week of the return to COR 4. (43,643 customer accounts; 1,550 customers are without service)
GWA expects that water service availability at specific parts of the island will vary throughout the day and may affect reporting data throughout the restoration process. GWA is aware of areas experiencing low to no water pressure in parts of Agana Heights, Barrigada, Chalan Pago-Ordot, Dededo, Harmon, Mangilao, Maina, Mongmong-Toto-Maite, Nimitz Hill Estates, Sinajana, Santa Rita-Sumai, Talofofo, Tamuning, Yigo and Yona.
Where To Get Water: Tankers And Flexitanks
GWA has deployed water tankers and flexitanks in areas experiencing low to no water pressure. 12 water tankers are currently staged at:
- Barrigada: Library and Jesus Cruz Street
- Chalan Pago Mayor’s Office
- Dededo: Chalan Palauan, Astumbo Senior Center, Machanao, near UR Market, Piga Subdivision
- Mangilao: Santa Teresita Catholic Church
- Talo’fo’fo Mayor’s Office
- Yigo: Chalan La Chance, Chalan Tomin, Gil Breeze Subdivision
Please bring your own containers to store and haul water.
Additional tankers and flexitanks will be provided to the community, with official notification sent to the public as they are staged. In addition to residential tankers, GWA is supporting critical care facilities such as clinics and dialysis centers.
Water Conservation Measures In Effect
Conservation of water is critical to restoring areas remaining without service. GWA continues to receive reports of pressure washing and car washing while parts of our system remain depleted. To protect the recovery, inspectors are visiting homes and businesses to seek compliance with these emergency conservation measures. We are asking every household and business to stop washing vehicles and stop all pressure washing until every zone has been fully pressurized.
What To Expect During Restoration
As system adjustments are performed to rebuild pressure, customers are reminded that outages and instances of low to no pressure will occur during the restoration process as crews respond to power loss, fluctuations, refueling, or generator maintenance at wells, pump stations, and reservoirs. As the distribution system is pressurized, please keep in mind:
- Electrical trips at wells and booster pump stations are expected during restoration; electrical components are designed to protect themselves to prevent fire or damage, and well-pump and motor assemblies are extremely sensitive to variances in electricity.
- As wells come back online, pressure still needs to build within the distribution system to fully restore service and refill supply tanks and reservoirs.
- Fuel delivery and operational maintenance for generator-powered wells is ongoing.
- Customer demand during peak hours will affect how quickly pressure can build to acceptable service levels.
Water Quality Testing
Distribution system sampling and analysis began July 7. Sample collection is island-wide and will continue as more of the distribution system is restored. Results will be reported to the public as they become available.
